AI, social media, ideology, culture—
everything is moving toward the same goal:
eliminate friction.
Waiting disappears.
Boundaries soften.
The world slides toward seamlessness.
But inside, the opposite is happening.
When free time expands, the senses destabilize.
When tasks vanish, the mind collapses inward.
And without practice in that inward terrain, people lose their balance easily.
Convenience doesn’t protect us.
Smoothness erases the small frictions the mind uses to stay upright.
Which is why we need to leave intentional roughness in our lives.
Weight, thickness, resistance, drag.
In the future, these “inconveniences” may become
the last tools humans have to maintain a sense of self.
